In
1989 the Waterville Area Art Society initiated an annual competition
and exhibition known as The Maine Open Juried Art Show. The show is
a showcase for the talents of Maine artists and a popular event for
the viewing public.
The purpose of this show is to promote art awareness, to provide
an art competition and a venue for Maine artists to exhibit their
work in Central Maine. The Waterville Public Library successfully
hosted the first twelve shows. In 2002, the Maine Open-Juried Art
Show move to the Winslow Public Library, providing more exhibition
space for the growing number of participating artists.
